Former Ghana Football Association vice-chairman Joseph Ade Coker, has stated that Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor is far-off from being a world-class coach to be paid an astounding $25,000 as monthly salary.
The maverick politician argues that the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak gaffer does not deserve the amount being paid to him because he lacks global recognition in coaching.
He says rewarding a “black coach with a white man’s certificate’ with huge sums of money is irrational.
“Something should be done about C.K Akunnor’s salary. How can you pay a local coach who has acquired foreign certificate $25,000 and besides he is not a world-class coach.” he Accra-based Angel FM
He further states that it is not prudent for a local coach to take a salary which is far bigger than what President Akufo-Addo takes at the end of the month.
Ade Coker made this comment when he waded into the debate after current Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor was forced to accept a 40% pay cut from his monthly $25,000 salary.
Akonnor has accepted to take the pay cut ahead of his first official game against Mali in an international friendly next month.
Akonnor was appointed as Black Stars head coach in January this year to replace his former boss Kwasi Appiah who was refused contract renewal after the expiration of his initial deal on 31st December 2020.
