Mariano Barreto is the third different coach Asante Kotoko has hired as head coach this season after Maxwell Konadu and Johnson Smith who was caretaker head trainer following the sacking of Konadu.
The Porcupine Warriors have won 23 Ghana Premier League titles and they are the most successful club of the competition but can the Portuguese add title number twenty-four ?
The club won the league in the following seasons : 1963–64, 1964–65, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1972, 1975, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988–89, 1990–91, 1991–92, 1992–93, 2003, 2005, 2007–08, 2011–12, 2012–13 and 2013–14.
If Kotoko wins this season’s title under Barreto, it will be league title number 24 for the Porcupines and the Portuguese might have been more successful in Ghana than his previous stint as Ghana coach.
