Ghana winger Christian Atsu was on target for Newcastle United on Monday night as the Magpies sealed promotion to the English Premier League with a 4-1 win over Preston North End at St. James Park.

Newcastle United opened the scoring in the 7th minute through Spanish forward Ayoze Perez when he tucked in Aleksandar Mitrovich’s corner.

However, Simon Grayson’s side soon hit back through Jordan Hugill, and more than matched the Magpies for much of the first half.

On the 45th minute mark, Atsu kept his composure to slot home go restore his side’s lead after he was left unmarked.

Matt Richie put the game beyond the visitors when he converted a 64th minute penalty after Paul Gallagher was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, and was shown a straight red card.

Ayoze Perez added his second of the night with a fine finish in the 67th minute to seal promotion for Rafael Benitez side at the first time of asking after being relegated from the top division last season.
