Former Ghana international Mohamed Polo, says current Ghana manager Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has ‘great vision’ which will help him succeed as head coach of the Black Stars team.
According to the former Hearts of Oak gaffer, Akonnor’s decision to adopt the style of play of the 1978 Black Stars squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations, proves he’s ready to transfer the Black Stars team.
Akonnor,46, in an interview with the Ghana FA media, revealed he had watched the 1978 Black Stars squad and admired their style of play, adding the will modify the system for the current team.
Polo, a member of the 1978 squad, has commended the coach for his decision saying he has demonstrated that he has a vision for the team.
The veteran dribbler, however, indicated that Coach Akonnor will require a set of committed players who are willing to sacrifice for each other.
“He must select players who are ready to die for each other. He must have a team that cares less about who the captain is, who the goalkeeper or the top scorer.
“This is the only his squad will play like a team because in our time we were playing like a team.
“He must also ensure there is enough competition in the team. Only players in good form are selected.
“In our time, there was a lot of competition in the team and that is one of the reasons that made us a formidable side,” he told Ashh FM.
