Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman Alhaji Raji Ali has raised some personal doubts about the readiness of the Ghana Football Association to start competitive football amidst Covid-19 in the country any time soon following the cancellation of the 2019/20 season.
The impact of the Coronavirus-19 forced the GFA to cancel the current season without declaring a champion whilst allocating Africa places to Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold to compete in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
The GFA announced that the 2020/21 League season will commence in the second week of October 2020, subject to approval from the Government of Ghana but Alhaji Raji is not convinced.
“We must not be deceived that what is happening in Europe can happen in Ghana. Footballers in Europe are tested continuously but we don’t have the capacity for that in Ghana,” he told Graphic Sports.
He noted that it would be a big mistake to restart the league when the virus was still lurking around and blamed the FA for not properly engaging the Presidency on the modalities for ensuring a safe Premier League season.
“The FA has not been proactive enough. There is no correspondence between them and the Presidency for the safe re-opening of the various leagues.
“Clubs can’t play in an empty stadium; they won’t make any money,”
