Hamburger SV may have to play their remaining games of the season without Stephan Ambrosius. The lanky defender tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while training with teammates on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s league fixture against Karlsruher SC.
The defender, one of the best players this season, could miss the remaining games of the season.
The 22-year-old got injured during the training and had to be transported away in a golf cart.
There is fear in HSV camp since the injury is a more serious problem – in that knee, Ambrosius had already suffered a cruciate ligament rupture a few years ago.
Ambrosius who turned down an invitation to play for the Black Stars in the last two games of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe, has made 26 outings for Hamburger SV in 2 Bundesliga this campaign.
Stephan Ambrosius injury could be a big blow for Hamburger SV who are chasing promotion to the German Bundesliga next season. They currently sit third on the league standings with 51 points after playing 30 games so far.
