The Gelsenkirchen-based club adventure in the German top-flight came to an end on Tuesday after they suffered a defeat to Armenia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga.
The Royal Blues finally succumbed to relegation after a disastrous outing this season in the Bundesliga. An exit in the DFB Pokal to Wolfsburg would later be preceded by the sacking of head coach Christian Gross who happened to be the fourth coach for the club this season. Schalke 04 only has a paltry 13 points from 30 games played so far with 21 losses.
Full time in Bielefeld.

Ghanaian-born Gerald Asamoah was part of an interim technical team tasked to steer the club away from relegation which seemed an almost impossible mission.
Joselpho Barnes who happens to be the son of former Ghanaian international Sabastian Barnes will also be affected by the demotion as he represents the club in the lower division. Hans Adu Sarpei, Anthony Annan and Bernard Tekpetey have played for the Royal Blues in recent times.
The last time Schake 04 suffered relegation in the German top flight was in the 1990 football season.
