German football tactician Jurgen Kohler has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Black Stars coaching position following the dismissal of Chris Hughton.
Kohler, a former World Cup winner with Germany in 1990, has expressed keen interest in the role and officially submitted his application well before the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) deadline on February 2, 2024.
Boasting a coaching career of over 15 years, Kohler holds a UEFA Pro License certificate, showcasing his strong qualifications for the position.
His managerial experience spans various clubs, including his recent role at FC Viktoria Koln.
Kohler has also managed the German U21 team, served as Director of Football at Bayern Leverkusen, managed MSV Duisburg, and held the position of Director of Football at vfR Aalen.
Sources suggest that the GFA is impressed with Kohler’s credentials, and initial contact has been established. The Executive Committee is scheduled to meet on January 30, 2024, to discuss his potential appointment.
Beyond his coaching expertise, Kohler’s illustrious playing career featured spells with renowned clubs like Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich.
At 58 years old, he brings a unique combination of leadership skills, discipline, and a successful track record in team reconstruction, organization, and the development of young talent.
Kohler’s impactful work with the German U21 team, where he revitalized the team’s structure and contributed to the promotion of promising players to the senior national team, is particularly noteworthy.
