Henry Asante Twum, Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced that defender Patric Pfeiffer has been excluded from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to injury.
Coach Otto Addo revealed his 23-man squad on Thursday, August 29, omitting the highly-rated Young Boys defender. Pfeiffer, who recently acquired his Ghanaian passport, was hopeful for his debut with the Black Stars, but a muscle injury has sidelined him for the crucial games against Angola and Niger.
Pfeiffer joins other injured players Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah, Salis Abdul Samed, and Gideon Mensah on the sidelines. Notable players such as Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, and Jordan Ayew have been included in the squad.
Captain Andre Ayew, currently a free agent, has been overlooked for the second consecutive selection, sparking debate among fans and analysts.
The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 and then travel to Morocco to take on Niger on September 9. The qualifiers are vital for Ghana’s bid to secure a spot in the continent’s premier tournament, with the top two teams from each group earning automatic qualification to the AFCON.
