Accra Hearts of Oak will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host relegation-threatened Karela United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in a crucial Ghana Premier League clash.
After an impressive surge earlier in the season that saw them break into the top four, the Phobians have hit a rough patch. Aboubakar Ouattara’s men have won just once in their last five league outings (D2, L2), slipping to 7th place with 41 points. However, they remain one of the league’s most defensively solid sides, conceding only 17 goals while scoring 22.
Home form has been inconsistent for the capital-based club, with three wins and two losses in their last five matches at the Accra Sports Stadium. Still, Hearts will be encouraged by their strong home record against Karela United — they’ve never lost to the visitors in a league match at home since 2020.
Karela United, meanwhile, are fighting to stay afloat in the top flight. A 2-0 defeat to champions FC Samartex 1996 on Wednesday has left them in 16th place with 28 points from 27 games. Scoring has been a major issue for Nurudeen Amadu’s side, who have managed just 17 goals all season — the joint-lowest tally in the league — while conceding 22.
Their form on the road has also been dismal. Karela are winless in their last five away games (D1, L4) and face an uphill task in Accra. However, they’ll be desperate to cause an upset and escape the relegation zone.
The head-to-head record slightly favors Hearts. In their four league meetings at the Accra Sports Stadium since the 2020/21 season, the Phobians have recorded one win and three draws. After three consecutive stalemates — two goalless and one 1-1 — Hearts finally secured a 3-1 victory over Karela United last season, a result they’ll be keen to replicate.
