Accra Lions FC darling boy, Rauf Salifu made history on Friday evening against Elmina Sharks FC at the Accra Sports Stadium in the season opener of the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Rauf became the first player ever to score in the Ghana top-flight league for Accra Lions FC since the formation of the Football Club.
Lions played their first ever top-flight game at home at the Accra Sports Stadium to Fearsome Sharks to have a taste of the Ghana Premier League.
Rauf rescued his team from suffering an opening day defeat at home in their first ever top-flight campaign with an 83rd minute strike to ensure Lions picked up a point from the match.
Hearts of Oak SC player on loan at Sharks, Mitchell Sarpong got the opening goal of the season and in the match but Salifu’s instinctive finish helped the home team to get at least a point from the game.
Whiles Sarpong became the first player to score this season in the league, Rauf Salifu made history by scoring the first goal in the top-flight in the history of the newly promoted team Accra Lions FC.
Salifu Rauf is not new to goal scoring after banging in 21 league goals in the 2020-21 Ghana Division One League Zone Three to spearhead his team’s promotion at the end of the season.
