Ghanaian goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi has launched a scathing attack on his club, Hearts of Oak, accusing them of neglecting his welfare and medical needs.
The goalkeeper has been sidelined for 11 months due to an injury that requires surgery, but according to him, the club has not approved the necessary procedure.
In an interview with Medeama FM, Antwi revealed that he has been waiting for Hearts of Oak to take action to facilitate his surgery, but so far, nothing has been done.
“I got injured 11 months ago and the doctor advised me to undergo surgery so I’m still waiting for Hearts of Oak to do the needful,” he said.
Despite being in limbo for months, Antwi remains confident that his club will eventually come to his aid. When asked whether he would take action against the club, he responded calmly, stating that he believes Hearts of Oak will eventually facilitate his surgery.
“I’m still under contract with Hearts of Oak, so I believe they will do what is right and help me get the surgery I need,” he said.
Antwi also denied rumors of his departure from the club, insisting that he still has a valid contract with Hearts of Oak. The goalkeeper joined the club from Legon Cities in August 2022 but has made only eight league appearances since then, due to a combination of injuries and lack of game time.
The injury has had significant consequences for both Antwi and the club. He missed the entirety of last season, during which Hearts of Oak faced significant goalkeeping challenges and narrowly avoided relegation.
