Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has opened up about a long-standing misunderstanding with his ex-teammate Prince Tagoe, admitting they “did not see eye to eye” for years due to external influences.
Speaking during an Instagram Live session on Thursday, Gyan attributed their rift to misinformation spread by others.
“Prince Tagoe was brainwashed. People said bad things about me to him. I didn’t see eye to eye with him,” Gyan revealed.
The tension between the two players was public in the past, notably when Tagoe criticized Gyan’s leadership in 2018 after Stephen Appiah’s captaincy era. Gyan had responded by accusing Tagoe of using his name for publicity.
Despite their history, Gyan praised Tagoe’s character and highlighted their improved relationship.
“He has a good heart, and he’s a good person. I now have a great relationship with him,” Gyan said, sharing that a recent phone conversation had helped mend their bond.
Gyan further demonstrated his support for Tagoe by attending the funeral of Tagoe’s mother, solidifying their renewed friendship.
The reconciliation marks a new chapter for the two former Black Stars players, showcasing mutual respect and unity.
