Goalkeeper Frederick Asare has opened up about a challenging period he faced shortly after joining Asante Kotoko last season, admitting that he almost left due to the overwhelming pressure.
Asare’s journey to the Porcupine Warriors began with his departure from Accra Lions, joining Asante Kotoko on a free transfer. Despite experiencing a strong debut season and being determined to further excel in the upcoming campaign, he revealed that his initial days at the club were marked by doubt and stress.
In a candid revelation during a YouTube interview with the club, Asare disclosed, “This is one of the things I wanted to hide from the media. Life at Kotoko from the beginning wasn’t easy. When I came, I quite remember that exactly, I think the 3rd day or 4th day, I met the physio and the team doctor to inform them that I can’t continue.”
He continued, “The pressure was too much. From where I was coming from, Asante Kotoko was a big club and is one of the places they expect more from you. So I put it in mind that I wouldn’t come down. However, from the look of things after 3-4 days, especially the culture, training drills, etc., it was not easy.”
Asare’s revelation sheds light on the initial challenges he faced while adapting to the demanding environment of a prominent club like Asante Kotoko.
Despite contemplating an early departure, he persevered and eventually found his footing, showcasing his determination to succeed.
