Ghanaian striker John Antwi’s Pyramid FC’s are just a game away from reaching the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals following a huge 4-1 victory over Farouk Mohammed’s Enyimba in the first-leg.
Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s men had reached the quarter-finals after finishing second in their group behind Raja Casablanca and were drawn against group A winners Enyimba.
The first-leg took place in Cairo on Sunday afternoon and saw Pyramids claim a big 4-1 victory ahead of the second-leg in Aba next week.
Against all odds, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after just seconds from the start as Victor Mbaoma took advantage of Ekramy’s howler as the keeper tried to dribble past the forward.
The hosts responded after 15 minutes through Ramadan Sobhi as miss-pass from the Enyimba midfielder put the forward through on goal.
Four minutes into the second-half, team captain Abdallah El-Said made it two with a beautiful curling effort from the edge of the box, before Ibrahim Adel doubled pyramids’ lead with spectacular volley in the 57th minute.
In the 66th minute, Adel was the hero once again with an easy tap in, putting the tie to bed ahead of the return-leg in Nigeria next week.
The return-leg will be held on May 23 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, with a 2-0 defeat sending Pyramids to the semi-finals.
