Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku has officially signed with Belgian Challenger Pro League side SV Zulte Waregem on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional two years, the club has confirmed.
The 20-year-old winger joins the former Belgian top-flight contenders from Ghanaian club Great Corinthians FC. Opoku’s transfer to the Elindus Arena comes after a successful trial period, during which he impressed the club’s management with his technical skills, quick execution, and high potential.
Announcing the signing on their official website, SV Zulte Waregem stated, “Zulte Waregem strengthens itself with Joseph Opoku. The winger trained with our Boeren for a while and now signs a contract of two seasons with Essevee.”
Opoku expressed his excitement after sealing the deal, stating, “This is a dream come true for me, but I know it’s just the beginning. I’ve sacrificed everything my whole life to become a professional footballer. That Essevee is now offering me this opportunity is unbelievable. I want to grow here, improve my qualities, and hopefully give something back to this beautiful club.”
The club’s scouting department also praised Opoku’s potential, saying, “Joseph is a boy with a lot of talent who will be an added value for Essevee in the long term. He is a very intelligent player who knows how to hold his own technically when he is under pressure. We are following his development closely to prepare him for the big stage.”
Though Opoku has yet to make his debut for the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars, his move to SV Zulte Waregem marks a significant step in his budding football career.
