Germany national hero and legend Lothar Matthaus has lashed out at Hertha Berlin’s decision to bring back Ghana versatile attacking midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng to the club for the 2021-22 season in Germany.
Boateng returned to his boyhood club after 20 years away from the Blue and Whites club, but is yet to have a positive impact on the team as Hertha struggles in the Bundesliga continues despite his inclusion.
Bayern München legend, Matthaus is yet to phantom the role of the experienced player but insists Sporting Director Fredi Bobic is just a fan of the Ghanaian since their days at Frankfurt and decided to bring him back to the club for their friendship sake.
“I have not yet understood what is his role in the club: whether a guide on the pitch or in the locker room for the coach – said the former Inter midfielder to SkySport Deutschland.
“Bobic has been very attached to him since the days of Eintracht Frankfurt when Boateng was still a great player, albeit a difficult character. But those times are over.”
The former Ghana International has failed to score or provide an assist in five Bundesliga matches this season.
