Asante Kotoko lost the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title to rivals Hearts of Oak despite the fact that the Porcupine Warriors were leading the league with a four-point advantage during the second round and according former Warrior Ahmed Toure the lack of proper center forward was a major problem for them.
“You can see that they lacked a proper striker. A real number nine up front. The team had Kwame Opoku who was scoring goals but he was sold.” Toure who was voted 2011 Best Player of the Ghana Premier League as a Kotoko player told SPORTSWorldGhana.com exclusively.
“I was in Obuasi when we played Kotoko and won 2-1. I saw the Kotoko team but I did not like it especially in the area of attack. The strikers they have did their best but it was not enough.” Toure explained.
The 33-year old Burkinabe attacker has scored 5 goals in as many league matches for Medeama SC since he joined them for the second round of the league.
As a matter of fact Kwame Opoku – before he left -scored 7 goals in 16 games for Kotoko and still lead the Top Scorers chart. No other Kotoko striker has scored more than 5 goals this season and this statistics highlights the attacking problem of the Kotoko team.
