The head of communications of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Obed Acheampong has dismissed the 2016 PLB awards ceremony as ” classic robbery” following Amos Frimpong’s unsuccessful bid to win the best defender of the season accolade as Hearts of Oak’s Inusah Musah picked the award.
Amos Frimpong, Kotoko’s captain played 26 matches and cored 8 goals as a defender to finish 5th with his club at then end of the league.
“Its an absolute robbery for Amos Frimpong not to win this award. How can Inusah Musah who played 13 matches out of the 30 games win the award ahead of Frimpong and Abdul Bashiru? Well honestly speaking its a classic robbery. I do not understand it. It doesn’t add up as to why Musah won the award. Yes, awards are full of controversies but sometimes you can manage the situation to prevent these kinds of controversies by being fair. We need further explanations from the organizers why Musah won the award” Obed Acheampong fumed on Kumasi-based Metro FM on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile it is important to note that in the 2010/2011 season Kotoko’s Amed Toure was voted the Most Valuable Player of the season in similar circumstances despite missing the first half of the season.
