Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has suggested that Kwesi Nyantakyi might have become the first Black leader of FIFA if not for the Anas exposé.
Speaking to Starr FM, Dr. Tamakloe said, “Nyantakyi would have been the first Black man to head FIFA if the Anas exposé hadn’t happened.”
Kwesi Nyantakyi, a key figure in African football, served as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and held influential positions within FIFA and CAF.
However, his career faced a dramatic downfall following the 2018 investigative report by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which revealed widespread corruption in Ghanaian football.
The exposé, titled “Number 12,” showed Nyantakyi allegedly accepting a $65,000 bribe from journalists posing as businessmen. The revelations led to Nyantakyi’s resignation from all football-related roles and a lifetime ban imposed by FIFA.
Reflecting on Nyantakyi’s fall from grace, Dr. Tamakloe lamented the loss not only for Nyantakyi but also for Africa, missing out on the opportunity to have a representative at the highest level of global football administration.
