The £15m summer signing from Southampton – Jannik Vestergaard – is yet to win any of the games he has started for his new club, while six of the seven he has been left out of have ended in victories and currently Ghana’s Daniel Amartye plays ahead of him.
Amartey has started and finished the last three games of the team whilst Vestergaard has had to be limited to sub appearances.
What is the reason?
Brendan Rodgers has spoken on the issue :
“Jannik has been used a lot more than what I would have anticipated in all honesty. His role coming in was pretty clear.” Rodgers is quoted by Leicestermercury.co.uk
“He’s had to come in and play more games. He didn’t have a long pre-season, and then he picked up an injury. So without a lot of training time and adaption to the team, he’s had to go in to play games.” he said.
“I’ve got no doubt his qualities and what he will bring over the short, medium and long term for us.
“When you bring new players in, they’re going to take time to adapt, but we’ve definitely strengthened our squad with the signings and hopefully we’ll see that over the course of the season.”
