President of the Ghana Arm wrestling Federation Charles Osei Assibey has declared his intention to contest for the Ghana Olympic Committee Presidency.
According to the veteran Sports Journalist, the GOC has not done much over the years to support sports in the country, hence his decision to lead the GOC in other to bring change to the institution.
“I have indicated that I want to know what qualifies anybody to be able to lead the Ghana Olympic Committee. If there are no special requirements or qualifications, then I feel that my work as a journalist, my work as a founder of a federation, my work as a leader of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana should be enough to propel me to lead the GOC.
‘’As at this point until a decision is taken on the 19th of February I feel that I should still hold on. Once the general assembly agrees and endorses the roadmap provided then I will be able to confer my decision to lead the Ghana Olympic Committee.” He told Starr Sports
Charles, who was a close friend to the current GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah, indicates that he doesn’t care if his intention to contest for the position destroys his relationship with Ben Nunoo Mensah who has also announces his intention to go for a second term.
“I don’t need to discuss my intention to contest with Ben or anybody. Respectively, the people who votes, that’s the General Assembly are the ones to consider my decision. I want to serve people and bring change to the association not friends. He added
The General Assembly will on February 19 come out with the road map for the upcoming GOC election which is scheduled for March 15
