The Administrative and Operations Manager of Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi has taken a swipe at Ghana’s number one referee Daniel Laryea, claiming the ace match official is “corrupt and manipulated”.
His shameful, and unfortunate comment comes following Laryea’s inclusion in the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s list of referees for the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Cameroon next month.
Daniel Laryea, on Tuesday, was selected among the twenty-four center referees for the continent’s premium football competition by Africa’s football governing body, CAF.
His selection earned massive commendation and praises from Ghanaian social media users, many of whom expressed delight at seeing a Ghanaian referee making the cut for the AFCON.
But in a rather bizarre turn of events, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi seems to have a different view about Daniel Laryea.
According to him the highly-rated referee, along with young match official Julian Nii Akwah Nunoo are the two most corrupt and manipulated match officials in Ghana Football.
“The two most corrupt and manipulated guys are D. Laryea and J. Nunoo,” Dasoberi wrote on his Facebook page.
“Number one my foot,” the Kotoko Administrative manager added.
It will be recalled that both Julian Nunoo and Daniel Laryea were among the match officials during Asante Kotoko’s 3-2 Ghana Premier League Match week six(6) defeat to King Faisal.
In that game, Julian Nunoo [Centre referee] awarded the Porcupine Warriors a penalty, a decision which was subsequently reversed after consultation with Daniel Laryea [fourth official].
Kotoko, after the match filed an official complaint to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the conduct of the referee during the match.
