Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has expressed strong belief that the Black Starlets will recover and perform better in the ongoing U-17 Africa Cup of Nations despite a disappointing start to their campaign.
Ghana were held to a 2–2 draw by Algeria at the Mohammed VI Football Academy after surrendering a two-goal advantage in their opening Group D fixture.
The Black Starlets had started brightly, with Yao Gavi Robinho and Eric Adu Gyamfi putting them in control before halftime, giving Ghana a comfortable 2–0 lead.
However, the Algerians responded strongly in the second half, scoring twice before the 70th minute to draw level. They were also handed a late opportunity from the penalty spot but failed to convert, allowing Ghana to escape with a draw.
Speaking after the match on Asempa FM, Lamptey expressed optimism about the team’s chances in the competition.
“The Black Starlets will bounce back from this disappointing result. We have a good team, and I am confident we will do well,” he stated.
His comments come as Ghana prepares for a crucial second Group D match against Senegal on Sunday, May 17, where the team will be seeking their first victory of the tournament to improve their qualification chances.
