“Let’s be honest, they are adults. They should know these things. If the table turn around and it happens to them how will they feel. Three years later and we still have not been compensated.” Steven Polack is quoted to have said in an interview with Wontumi Radio.
This is complete insult. Damning for the institution Asante Kotoko. But I am least surprised and I will tell why.
Polack is one man who is never shy of uttering his feelings and firing shots regardless of the backlash that is likely to follow. During his time in Kumasi in an FA Cup match against NEA Salamina , referee Nuhu Liman awarded a controversial penalty to his team and Amos Frimpong converted to win the game 2-1 to advance the Porcupine Warriors in the competition. At the official press conference the British trainer did not hide his disappointment not only about the poor display from his boys but also the horrible refereeing decision from Liman to award a bad penalty in Kotoko’s favour. He didn’t won to qualify this way and he said it as it was. “I will be very honest with you , this was never a penalty” he said at the press conference of the Baba Yara stadium. Some Kotoko top men were not happy about this admission and wanted him to apologize. I do not even remember if he did. So there you have the evidence.
If there are players and officials who deserve to be compensated following the accident. Why have they not been compensated after three years?
And if no one deserves a compensation has that communication been made? No.
The accident occurred on 12th July 2017 and it is exactly three years since that time. The management team led by executive chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei at the time has since been disbanded. The captain of the team was Amos Frimong who has left the club and country. Yakubu Mohammed , Baba Mahama, Michael Akuffo, Sadick Adams all have left. A new board of directors has been put in place and there is no management team in place currently and this worrying issue of accident compensation does not appear to be a priority for the club that is searching for a new CEO.
Polack – the man of hard truth – has then erupted like a volcano firing shots. One can notice the frustration of the coach as well as the players and not to justify this insult – it was always going to happen after three years of waiting.
