On-loan Asante Kotoko defender Samuel Frimpong has revealed that one-time Ghana premier league winner Godfred Saka has been his idol since transforming from midfield to the right-back position.
The enterprising right-back has been on a season-long loan at premier league side Karela United from the Porcupines after falling down the pecking order.
Speaking to myfabulousonlinecom, the 22-year-old said even though he has learned a lot from Kotoko full-backs Amos Frimpong and Augustine Sefah but ‘fantastic’ Saka has been a player he has looked up to since taken up the right-back role.
“Since I moved from midfield to the right-back position, one player I’ve always looked up to is Godfred Saka, I admire him so much even though I learned a lot from Amos Frimpong and Augustine Sefah at Kotoko but Saka is fantastic and you could see at some point I also did rasta just to look like him”
“I tried to copy everything about him even his body language when he’s on the pitch and many even asked if we were siblings, I watched his videos a lot together with Philip Lahm”
Saka has been one of the highly-rated right-backs in the Ghana Premier League since making his debut for Aduana Stars in 2009/2010 season.
The 31-year-old spent almost a decade at Aduana Stars, where he won the Ghana Premier League in 2010 before crossing carpet to Karela United. He is currently with Great Olympics.
