Former Ghana skipper, Stephen Appiah has charged football administrators in the country to focus on grassroots and colts football.
According to the former Juventus and Fenerbache midfield dynamo, the future of Ghana football depends on grassroots and colts football.
Appiah, who is now the technical coordinator of the senior national team, the Black Stars in an interview with Accra based Kingdom FM recounted how talented players emerged from grassroots and colts football adding that football in the country will struggle to produce stars if colts and grassroots football is not taken seriously.
The likes of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Charles Taylor, Agyemang Badu, Harrison Afful, Rev Osei Kofi among other great players all emerged from grassroots and colts football.
Appiah insisted that it suddens his hearts that much talents are playing grassroots and colts football but football administrators don’t recognize such talents.
Stephen Appiah was the first skipper to qualify the country for FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany.
He also played a key role in Ghana’s qualification to South Africa World Cup in 2010.
