Gold Fields Ghana Limited’s executive vice president, Mr. Alfred Baku has revealed that the company has no interest in sponsoring the Black Stars any time soon.
In an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM conducted by George Mensah (Icon), Mr. Alfred Baku stated that, the mining giants are not in any negotiations to become the headline sponsor of the senior national team of Ghana.
“We have no plans to sponsor Black Stars any time soon and that’s not because we’re not financially motivated to make such decisions but rather we want to switch our attention and focus to other things”, he said.
According to him, the company has decided to offer their outmost support to Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC and to also support other sporting events like golf in their catchment areas of the company.
“The company has decided that it has done enough for the Black Stars and thinks its the right time to switch our focus to other equally important entities that needs support to fully develop and grow well, hence our decision to sponsor the Golf tournament held in the Western Region “, he noted.
“Also we want to take Medeama SC to a whole new level in Ghana and beyond and for that matter have decided to give them the financial aid that will ease the burden on the owners of the club and make sure the team performs consistently at the highest level of Ghana and African club football respectively.”
He concluded;” For now we want to fully concentrate on helping Medeama SC, a team that is located in our community and that falls into our corporate responsibility project to help them and also provide the Golf course with an unflinching support.”
Gold Fields Ghana Limited announce sponsorship deal for Medeama SC worth 300,000.00 dollars two months ago as part of their social corporate responsibility and the deal will last till 2023.
