Egyptian club Zamalek have appointed Mohamed Salah as new head coach after finally parting company with Momen Soliman.
Soliman threw in the towel following the Cairo-based team’s 1-0 win over bottom side Tanta in the domestic league on Friday.
Despite the win, which left them sixth in the league, outspoken chairman Mortada Mansour lambasted Soliman and his technical staff for the team’s “poor display”.
“Soliman’s resignation has been accepted, assistant Mohamed Salah will replace him,” said Mansour.
Soliman’s resignation is his second in just two weeks, having also resigned following another unimpressive 1-0 win over Masry ahead of the international break.
He becomes the sixth manager to leave Zamalek this year after Jesualdo Ferreira, Marcus Paquetá, Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’, Alex McLeish and Mohamed Helmy.
Zamalek Coaches in 2016
Marcos Paqueta: December 2015 – 3 January 2016
Mido: 3 January – 9 February
Mohamed Salah: 9 February – 27 February
Alex McLeish: February – May
Mohammed Helmy: May – July
Momen Soliman: August – November
Soliman had been in charge since August and led the club to victory in the Egypt Cup.
He then offered to step down after defeat lost to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in last month’s African Champions League final.
However, Mansour also rejected that offer and had backed Soliman, saying he would stay in his role “until the end of the season”.
