Day five of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations saw the home nation shine bright as Ghana won their opening Group A match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 14.
The Black Stars were a much better side than the one that beat Gambia 1-0 on the opening day – they looked determined and driven, and almost able to create chances on goal at will.
Their finishing, however, lacked something to be desired – that was until the second half when goals from Stephen Sarfo and Razak Patrick handed them a 2-0 win and their first three points which leaves them at the top of Group A.
The first game of the day was not as entertaining and produced no goals as Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw by Mali which leaves them with a point a piece, and joint second in the group.
Group A is next in action on Saturday, September 16 when Nigeria play Guinea in the 15h00 (GMT) kick-off and Ghana face Mali in the 18h00 (GMT) kick-off.
Group B is in action on Friday, September 15 with Niger up against Cote d’Ivoire at 15h00 (GMT) and Senegal take on Benin at 18h00 (GMT).
