Kudus likely to leave West Ham amid strong Chelsea and Spurs interest – Ex-scout reveals

Former West Ham United chief scout, Mick Brown, has suggested that Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus could be on his way out of the club this summer, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur both closely monitoring the situation.

Despite signing a five-year deal with West Ham in August 2023, Kudus has continued to attract interest from top clubs, including the two London rivals. Brown, who boasts vast experience in player scouting — notably spending over a decade at Manchester United — believes it is now unlikely that Kudus will remain at the London Stadium.

“It looks like Kudus will be leaving West Ham,” Brown told Football Insider. “There’s been a lot of interest in him, but these clubs aren’t going to pay £80 million.”

He explained that while West Ham may be open to negotiating a lower fee, the final amount is still expected to represent a significant transfer.

“They’ll speak to West Ham to negotiate a lower fee, but I think they’ll be open to it — it’ll still be big money.”

Although Brown admitted having some concerns about the 24-year-old’s consistency, he acknowledged Kudus’ raw talent and the belief among clubs that they can unlock his full potential.

“I must be honest, I’ve got concerns about his consistency, and he didn’t have the best season. But these clubs will know that and will think they can get the best out of him.”

Chelsea, in particular, appear keen to strengthen under new head coach Enzo Maresca, even after landing deals for João Pedro and Jamie Gittens.

“Chelsea are the latest ones looking to make a move,” Brown added. “They’ve already made a few signings, but they’re not stopping there. Kudus has admirers at Stamford Bridge, and they’re still looking for attacking options.”

In his debut season in the Premier League, Kudus impressed with 14 goals and six assists across all competitions. However, his output dipped last season, where he managed just five goals in total.

The Black Stars forward is currently enjoying his off-season break in Ghana while transfer talks continue to swirl. As the summer window unfolds, it appears increasingly likely that Kudus could be wearing a new shirt by the start of next season.
