Chairman of the Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League Benjamin Baafi has been confirmed dead.
The veteran basketball administrator passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday night after battling an illness for months.
Baafi, who doubled as the Director of Sports at the Ghana Revenue Service and team manager of CEPS, was hugely revered for his work ethics.
He discharged his duties with aplomb as CEPS continued to dominate the Accra Basketball League for decades.
He becomes the second high-profile personality to pass to eternity in two weeks following the demise of celebrated coach Mathias Ocloo.
The Ghanaian basketball fraternity has been shocked with many sharing their disbelief and sadness on social media.
Baafi’s commitment, dedication and passion for the game was enviable as he made several financial contribution to the survival of many local teams in the West African nation.
Nicknamed, Capito, he was the voice for the now fastest growing sports in Ghana and will live in the heart and minds of tens of players and officials he mentored.
The ever-smiling administrator received an award for dedication and valour during the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards – an attestation of his unique contribution to the growth and promotion of the game.
Tributes have started pouring in for the man who became the face of the famous CEPS basketball team.
