Spanish referee José Luis Munuera Montero has been appointed for the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek on June 19.
Al Ahly will host Zamalek on June 19 at the Al-Salam Stadium in a game that is expected to shape the second-half of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek currently lead the table with 44 points, seven more than Al Ahly; however, the Reds have four games in hand due to their involvement in the CAF Champions League.
As per Al Ahly’s request for foreign referees in their league games, the EFA has announced the appointment of Spanish referee José Montero for the derby.
The 39-year-old has been a FIFA referee since 2019 and refereed 27 games during the 2021/22 season, including 20 in the LaLiga.
Montero also took charge of the Supercopa semi-final’s ElClásico, which saw Real Madrid come out victorious 3-2 after going into extra time.
Across 27 games this season, Montero handed out 111 yellow cards and only six red cards, while awarding 10 penalties.
