The traditional owner of Asante Kotoko Otumfour Osei Tutu II has imposed a transfer ban on the club for at least the next one football season, the Chief of Staff of Manhyia Kofi Badu announced during the inaugural meeting of the newly formed board of directors of the club.
As part of the restructuring at the club the powerful king formed a 9-member board of directors with a mandate they rebuild the Porcupine Warriors both on and off the pitch .
The new board chaired by Kwame Kyei – the executive chairman of club for the past three years – was unveiled today at the Sports Hotel owned by the board chairman himself.
Also present at the maiden meeting was the vice chairman of the board Mr. Jude Arthur who is also the board chairman of Ghana Commercial Bank. The other members included Mr. Kwadwo Boateng Genfi the board chairman of Ghana Exim Bank, Mr. Kwasi Osei Ofori, Alhaji Lamin, Lawyer Kwamina Mensah, Mr. Joseph Yaw Adu, Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare and Baffour Kwame Kusi the Ankobiahene of Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
“Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has directed Dr. Kwame Kyei and his board not to recruit any new player for at least a season.” Kofi Badu revealed the big news to the new board.
“The reason is to temporarily stop the player attrition rate and enable us to work with the current crop of players, who the Asantehene thinks have the quality to push the club to the top.” he added.
