Asante Kotoko were beaten 2-1 at home by Algerian side ES Setif in the Caf Confederation Cup playoff first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors after a goalless first half picked the lead in the 69th minute through striker Kwame Opoku.
Kotoko missed a penalty in the game as Setif secured a 2-1 win ahead of the second leg in Algeria.
Amoura Mohammed scored the equalizer for Setif in the 73rd minute with a beautiful header into the net.
Setif got the important goal in the 81st minute from a counter-attack as Kendouci Mohammed snatched a 2-1 win for the visitors.
The Ghanaian side were awarded a penalty after the ball hit the hand of a Setif player but Naby Keita failed to convert the penalty as ES Setif goalie saved the ball to deny Kotoko a home draw.
