Head coach of Aduana Stars, Yusif Abubakar, has given huge praise to his players for their efforts in getting a 2-0 victory over Libyan side, Al-Tahaddy, on Wednesday in the CAF Champions League first round qualifiers.
The match was the second leg of the tie and Aduana needed to win by at least 2-0 to get to the next round of the competition. They lost 1-0 in the first leg in Egypt 11 days ago.
They were able to get the victory thanks to goals from Elvis Opoku and Derrick Sasraku in either half and after the match, Abubakar said that the players showed strength to persevere even after he was very unhappy with them at the end of the first half.
“I would like to thank my players. I went at them at half time and I did not teach them anything tactical. I was hard on them and they should have lost their temper.
But they were able to psyche themselves up and they obeyed what we had planned.”
The coach thanked the team’s management, the fans and even those he described as critics of the team for motivating them in diverse ways.
Aduana Stars’ journey in the competition continues with a clash with Algerian side, Entente Sportive de Setif, on March 6 in Dormaa.
The return leg is set for March 16th in Setif and success for Aduana will send them to the group stages of the competition.
