Black Stars coach CK Akonnor believes Pyramids FC striker, John Antwi deserves to be named in the 23-man squad for Ghana’s friendly against Mali in October.
The Ghana international has been scoring for fun in the Egyptian top-flight consistently since 2017 and has been handed a chance to dazzle with the Stars.
Speaking at the squad announcement show which was aired live on Facebook by the Ghana FA, the former Kotoko was full of praises of the Pyramids target man.
“John Antwi, Odartey and I unearthed him at Eleven Wise and since the, he has done well for himself but The last time we had the Call-up, he was not part of the team because I was not personally to convinced, he should be part of the team at that time”, Akonnor revealed.
According to the coach, one thing he prioritise before inviting a player into the national team is consistency.
“I am looking at consistency with the team and now I think he has proven beyond doubt he is good, scored over 100 goals , now I think 102” he said.
Furthermore, the Ghana coach undeniably accepted that the predator finisher, Antwi deserved his call up for the friendly against Mali.
“He deserves a chance because he has done well and deserves a chance. All these new guys have the chance, we want people who can help us improve also win the AFCON”, Akonnor concluded.
