Ghana suffered elimination at the hands of Zambia on Wednesday evening in Ndola at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. It was an entertaining second-leg fixture of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers which ended 3-3 making it 4-3 on aggregate in favour of the Copper Queens of Zambia.
After the 3-3 draw in which Zambia scored a late equaliser through Babara Banda in the 96th minute, Nora Hauptle, the excellent coach of the Black Queens, expressed her disappointment for not being able to qualify.
“We would have loved to go over time. All in all, disappointing for us, “said Nora. The game would have travelled to extra time had it stayed 3-2 in favour of Ghana but Zambia struck deep into injury time to break Ghana’s heart.
“Kudos to Zambia,” Nora Hauptle said. The 40-year-old Swiss trainer applauded Zambia for securing the qualification to the fourth round of the Paris Olympic Games qualifiers.
The Copper Queens will lock horns against Morocco who thrashed their fellow North Africans, Tunisia, 6-2 on aggregate.
