English football coach Daryl Willard has lavished praised at the quality of talent on display at the Mirage Football Academy when he paid a visit to the Gyakaman-based academy.
Willard arrived in Ghana on the invitation of Mirage Football Academy. One of the Mirage Directors Seth Nana Twumasi a former Cheslea FC player had previously worked with Willard at the London-based side.
“I spent a week with the players of Mirage FA and was astounded at the potential of the young players. I knew I could do so much with these young talents. I ended up taking 2 players, George Asomani and Albert Amartey back to England with me into my Academy at Buckswood School.
“I have spent 15 years coaching in different clubs and countries and saw something special in the Ghanaians. Their love and total commitment for the game is something I had never seen before. There is so much potential. It’s incredible.”
During their time at Buckswood Academy, the two players Willard took with him have played at Cheslea FC ‘straining ground, had trials in Europe and competed in-front of premier league scouts.
They also recently played in the semi final of the cup where they played Hartpury College, a former hunting grounds of Black Stars striker Majeed Waris.
“So much has been achieved in such a short time I hope there will be more opportunities to work in Ghana,” Willard said of his working relationship with Mirage Football Academy.
Daryl Willard is a UEFA Pro Licence coach and player developer from England. He spent 6 years developing players at Cheslea FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, assisted Tony Adams then became the Sporting Director for the FA of Azerbaijan.
