Ace sports journalist, Kwabena Yeboah has kicked against any decision that will see the return of controversial midfielder Kelvin Prince Boateng.
The overwhelming start to his Las Palmas career with four goals so far has given some Ghanaians reasons to call for his return into the Black Stars but the Sports Highlight host is of the view that the midfielder should never be given a look as far as selection is concerned.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, Kwabena Yeboah missed no words in declaring his view about the issue that has dominated the media landscape for the past few days.
“I want to be blunt here, there is absolutely no way that if I had the power I will ever invite Kelvin into the team. Even if he becomes a Ronaldo or Messi overnight he will never get a call up under my reign if I were in a position to make a judgment on him. We have to be very careful with some of these things. Donning the national shirt is not only about form but also about someone who has the commitment to play for the team, someone who is not opportunistic about the national team. We gave him the biggest platform in his career and he got an opportunity to play for AC Milan and after that contract he stabbed at the back and for four years decided to have nothing doing with the Black Stars. We called him for 2014 world cup and I think that was highly opportunistic. I still maintain that calling opportunistic Kelvin was a huge mistake by Kwesi Appiah. During the 2014 world cup he was one of the players who
Calling him into the team again is tantamount to telling the world we are a dumping ground and can be taken for granted. Recalling Kelvin will not promote patriotism and enhance the atmosphere in the Stars camp. He should never be called”. Kwabena Yeboah declared.
Following their shenanigans in the 2014 world cup, Kelvin, Essien and Muntari were barred from the team but the former’s latest form has made some Ghanaians clamour for his return into the team ahead of the crucial world cup qualifier against Egypt.
