FC Nantes striker Majeed Waris believes the appointment of Vahid Halilhodzic as coach is exactly what Les Canaris needed to put wing beneath their wings this season.
Halilhodzic replaced Miguel Cardoso on Tuesday with Nantes having only won one of their eight Ligue 1 Conforama games this season, and Waris, who played under the Serbian at Trabzonspor in 2014, is convinced more wins are now just around the corner.
“[Halilhodzic] is strong and has a very strong mentality,” the Ghana striker, on a season-long loan from FC Porto, told Goal.
“He develops a culture of work. We’ll work a lot with him. He’ll prepare us to win absolutely every game. He has a mind of steel.”
The Black Stars defender also expects Halilhodzic to deviate from Cardoso’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, starting with Sunday’s clash against Girondins de Bordeaux.
“Coach Vahid comes with new tactics,” he said. “It’s very important for the team to have a positive mindset and to work hard to adapt to changes. He’s very direct and, with him, the whole team works a lot. We focused immediately on the match against Bordeaux to be ready for Sunday.”
Majeed Waris has been named in Coach Kwasi Appiah’s 23-man squad for their 2019 Nations Cup qualifier double header with Sierra Leone.
