Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Premier League side, Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed the similarity in the style of play between Ghanaians and Brazilians has been the rational behind the club’s quest for players from Brazil.
The club brought in two players from the South American country; Fabio Gama and Micahel Vinicius, during the 2020/21 season with the latter having to leave early despite putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors.
Asked about his side’s decision to recruit Brazilian players, Nana Yaw Amponsah answered: “We’ve come to appreciate that Ghanaians and Brazilians, we have a similar style of play [hence the decision to bring them in.”
Gama made had an impressive maiden campaign in the Ghana Premier League while Vinicius left the club in the middle of the season, a decision the CEO believes is attributed to he not settling in the country.
“Fabio Gama came in with his family, as that was going to be what make him settle. Vinicius came in at a time he had just divorced his wife, he was missing his daughter and that was affecting him,” he added.
Nana Yaw Amponsah also disclosed that the club is not working on bringing in any Brazilian at the moment while also revealing that there are going to be additions to the Kotoko squad.
