The founder and bank roller of King Faisal Football Club has reacted to President Akufo Add’s appeal to raise a fund of $25m for the Black Stars 2022 AFCON and World Cup campaigns.
This budget was unveiled at a breakfast meeting between Corporate Ghana and the Chief Executive Officers from state institutions.
The meeting which took place at the Jubilee House on Monday was to discuss how funds could be raised for the Black Stars ahead of upcoming competitions.
The idea was to involve corporate organizations so the financial burden on the sports ministry is eased allowing them to also focus on other sports.
The budget which was raised by the sector Minister, Mustapha Ussif was approved by President Nana Akufo Addo, in a breakfast meeting held at the Jubilee House on Monday with Corporate institutions to help contribute to the total sum of the budget.
However, Alhaji Grusah in an interview says he sees nothing wrong with the amount President Nana Addo announced at the Jubilee House last Monday.
“I give thanks to the President for this package,” the controversial football administrator told KUMASI 104.1 FM.
“But as for the amount, it is not huge as Ghanaians are speculating.
“Ghanaians should check the amount given to the South African coach before they say something else, we only have to appreciate what the President has done.” He entreated.
The veteran football administrator further noted that he said amount could be a loan by the Government just as the erstwhile John Agyekum Kuffour’s Government did for the country’s football governing body.
“This is a loan from the government to GFA as President Kuffour did at His time, there’s no hardship even though we are battling Covid 19.”
Alhaji whose team is battling with relegation further argured that if Ghanaians feel the budget is outrageous then, ”we should stop participating in the tournament”
“We should stop participating if we think the $25m is more, will FIFA fine us if we refused to participate” he quizzed.
“It is time we said the truth to ourselves.” He concluded.
Meanwhile, President pledged that his Government is ready to give the sports ministry a sum of $10M of the $25M while entreating the corporate institutions to aid in fulfilling the quantum.
