Ghana legend Mohammed Polo claims that he will win the FIFA World Cup for Ghana within five (5) years if given the chance to coach the Black Stars in the future.
According to the former Accra Hearts of Oak gaffer, who is arguably the most technically gifted player ever to emerge from Ghana, his topmost priority would be to assemble a standing national team within clubs in the domestic league for one year to form the core of his team.
This he believes will enable him to conquer the world by winning the global showpiece title for the first time for Africa.
“I will build a standing national team within the clubs if I am handed the Black Star’s head coach role. I will assemble the best players in the league for one (1) year for which Ghana will win the World Cup within five (5) years’ time,” he told Kumasi-based OTEC FM
“That is called proper development because Brazil did same and they won the World Cup. We have plans but the leaders in Ghana will never give us the chance to work” He added.
Ghana, four-time African Champions, have made three consecutive World Cup appearances since making its debut in 2006 in Germany.
In 2010, the West African powerhouse shook the world with some superlative display in South Africa, recording its first-ever quarterfinal qualification and exited the tournament after losing on penalties to Uruguay.
He was in the Ghana squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana.
Nicknamed the “Dribbling Magician” during his playing days for Ghana, Polo won the 1978 African Cup of Nations with the Black Stars.
