Ghana international midfielder Bernard Mensah has been handed a start by Besiktas JK coach Yalcin Sergen on his debut against PAOK FC on the occasion of the second qualifying round of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.
The 25-year old Ghanaian joined the Turkish side on August 19th from another Turkish side Kayserispor on a season-long loan deal and now he is handed a start in the first European match of the season of Besiktas.
The game kicks off at Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki, Greece and the winner advances to the third qualification stage. If there is a tie after 90 minutes then the game enters extra time as this is a one-off contest.
Mensah was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2015 from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes and was tipped to reach bigger heights at the club of coach Diego Simeone.
But that has not been the case as after series of loan spells at Getafe, Kasimpasa and at Kayserispor the Spanish club decided to get rid of him by selling him outright to the latter who transferred him to his current club in another loan deal.
