The Ghana Black Satellites defeated their Nigerian counterparts Flying Eagles by a lone goal in the opening fixture of the WAFU Zone B U-20 tournament.
The Ghanaians had an early chance to go in front after three minutes but Mohammed Suleyman fluffed his efforts and failed to put Ghana in the lead.
The Nigerians thought they had rather scored the opening goal few minutes after Ghana’s chance but their goal was rightly disallowed by the match officials for an offside call.
The first ended goalless with the Flying Eagles having the Greater share of the ball.
After the recess, the Nigerians looked more dangerous than the Ghanaians whenever they push forward for a goal.
On the 83rd minutes of the match, with seven minutes left on the clock, Percius Boah scored a World-class free kick to win all three points for Ghana as the game ended 1-0.
The win qualifies Ghana to the next stage while a draw in the next game against Ivory Coast will be enough to cement first place in Group B.
For Nigeria, the defeat sees them eliminated from the competition.
