Former Asokwa Deportivo SC hitman, Joel Fameyeh has finally revealed his mentor and source of inspiration as a player.
Speaking to SPORTSworldGhana in an exclusive interview, the FC Orenburg man hinted that his source of inspiration and mentor has been none other than the Portuguese best player ever, Cristiano Ronaldo now at Juventus FC.
According to him, Ronaldo was and remains his favorite footballer ever and inspires him to go beyond his limit and do more as a professional footballer who wants to reach a highest level in football.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the one player I’ve always looked up to growing up and remains my mentor because of his commitment to the game and his ability to do the unthinkable even when everyone sees it to be impossible and his professionalism is what pushes me to do more as a player”, he told SPORTSworldGhana.
“Ronaldo is a great guy and a true professional who inspires the younger generation of footballers across the world and his skill set and desire to make the impossible possible is what keeps me going and striving for success no matter how difficult it is to achieve my goals “, he said.
Furthermore, Fameyeh revealed that his 34-goals in a single league season was inspired by his willingness to achieve and emulate the foot steps of the Portuguese and World Super Star.
“I was constantly watching Ronaldo’s videos and highlights so I was more determined to make impact on my team just as he was constantly and consistently doing for Real Madrid and Manchester United during the 2007-08 season”, he noted.
“Ronaldo has been very consistent with his performance at the highest level and that is where and the kind of level and height I want to reach in my career at both club and national team level and become an icon just like him.”
On the other hand, Fameyeh also revealed that Argentina most loved footballer Diego Maradona also became his inspiration when he met him FC Brest in Belarus.
” Diego Amando Maradona also became my source of inspiration and a god father when he became director of football during my days in Belarus with FC Brest and I leant a lot from him as a young lad”, he concluded.
Joel Fameyeh started his football career at a Division One League club in Ghana, Kumasi called Asokwa Deportivo SC where he became the only Ghanaian player to score 34 league goals in a single season within the top-flight and the second tier respectively.
Fameyeh has since played for the Black Stars B and the Black Meteors in his young career and could be a great fit for the Black Stars in coming years should he continue with his blistering performance at club level in Russia.
