Newly promoted Real Tamale United have gotten one over Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC by signing Ashantigold SC midfielder David Abagna Sandan, Sportsworldghana.com can confirm.
Asante Kotoko were keen on securing a deal with the workaholic midfielder, but the Pride of the North, Real Tamale United FC who are returning to the Premier League have beaten them to the signing of the youngster.
The 23-year-old will put a pen to a three-year contract with the Tamale club as he joins from AshantiGold SC for an undisclosed amount.
Obuasi-based AshantiGold and Tamale-based RTU has agreed on a deal for the sale of the player and the player has also already agreed on personal terms with the club.
In the Ghana Premier League last season, Abagna was one of the most important players of the Miners as he bagged 9 goals in 30 matches and also provided 5 assists plus 4 man of the match awards.
The midfielder, who was a key member of the All Stars team that won the Ghana Premier League in 2016 having contributed immensely with his 10 goals in that season also helped the Miners to reach the finals of the 2021 MTN FA CUP finals where they lost on penalties to Accra Hearts of Oak.
Despite Asante Kotoko’s official letter to AshantiGold expressing their interest in signing Abagna, it is the Tamale-based club that have won race to signature of the midfielder.
