Musical sensations Davido and Sarkodie expressed their solidarity with Andre Ayew following his belated apology for Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2023 AFCON. The Black Stars’ captain, acknowledging responsibility for the team’s elimination, issued an unreserved apology in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday evening.
Ayew expressed remorse, stating, “I would like to apologize for the results of the AFCON that we just exited. We should have done better. We should have gotten better results too. As the captain of the squad, I take full responsibility for what happened on the pitch for the playing body.”
Responding to Ayew’s heartfelt apology, Davido reassured him with the words, “Nothing spoil baba!” In a spirit of camaraderie, Ayew replied, “My brother, we keep going.” The comments section on Instagram witnessed an outpouring of support from numerous celebrities.
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, sharing his sentiments, remarked, “You love your country and we love and appreciate you, king. We can be in our feelings because of how attached we are when we see the flag, but trust me, we are grateful for your efforts.” In gratitude, Ayew replied to Sarkodie, saying, “Sarkodie, it’s understandable, thanks for the support.”
The Black Stars faced a disappointing AFCON campaign in the Ivory Coast, failing to secure a victory in any of their matches. The team suffered a defeat to Cape Verde in their opening group game and managed draws against both Egypt and Mozambique.
The squad’s fate was sealed when they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Mozambique in their final group game, resulting in the dismissal of manager Chris Hughton last Monday.
