Legon Cities head Coach Bashir Hayford says the country’s consistent failure to qualify for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) is as a result of poor preparation.
Ghana missed out on the 2021 edition in Cameroon after failing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg loss to Burkina Faso, after drawing the second leg 0-0 in Ouagadougou.
The Black Stars ‘B’ team after finishing second at the 2009 and 2014 tournaments have since failed on three successive occasions to book qualification for the African second biggest tournament.
“Ghana as a country does not set targets for the CHAN tournament and that’s why we are always struggling to qualify,” Bashir Hayford told Accra-based HOT 93.7 FM in an interview.
He added by saying ”Football is a very different game where the team will have to be together for a certain period of time before competing but what do we see here in Ghana, sometimes two weeks preparations and this is not helping our teams at all most especially our national teams” the former Black Queens coach concluded.
